From Meh to Marvelous: Your Ultimate Guide to a Blue-free Monday
A study done by mind.org.uk reveals that upsetting 75% of youth suffer from ‘Sunday blues’ and rely on comfort food or pep talk to gather courage to deal with Monday. ‘Monday morning anxiety’ is not unheard of regardless of gen-z or millennials. ‘Monday morning blues’ or as I like to call ‘Impending-doom-feeling-at-Sunday-evening’ is quite a pain in the ass. Here are few arrows in my quiver I use to not hate Monday.
Self-care: Any self-care activity done on Monday morning will leave you feeling pampered and happy. I recommend work-out as brain releases feel good chemicals Dopamine and Endorphins which bring about a positive feeling in the body.
Wellness activities: Many organizations arrange employees wellness activities, make use of those on Monday. What is better than a free yoga break during work hours?
Increase productivity: Set yourself up to success by achieving easy tasks and increase productivity.Go easy on yourself, do not overwhelm yourself with many tasks.
Workspace environment: Everyone is transitioning towards Hybrid working model. It is easy to fall back to an unproductive-Monday-mindset if you are working from home. A simple solution to overcome this is organizing and cleaning work space on the previous night. Also make sure to understand what are the goals for next day/week.
Pick out clothes: Our brains are wired to feel better when we look better. How wonderful will it be to get a compliment from a colleague Monday morning? Makes my day.
Have a friendly chat with colleague on Sunday: Keep it causal ask them about their weekend. Don’t talk about work at all. This helps build a better relationship with them, making work-life easier.
Get a head-start: Nothing boosts confidence like a head-start. Working on easy tasks towards the end of weekend also lifts some weight off shoulders.
Favourite breakfast: Eating healthy keeps mind and body active. Helps getting over TGIF mindset.
Nice aesthetics: I cannot stress enough how much can aesthetics affect mindset. Choose a room with soothing colours to keep a check on stress levels.
Decompress over weekend: Wake up feeling charged on Monday. Relax, getting enough sleep and exercise are how I decompress. Lack of sleep impairs decision taking capacity. However, over-sleeping can disrupt body’s circadian rhythm. Balance is essential.
Appreciation on Monday: Gratitude puts me in a happy state of mind instantly. A great weapon to fight negative vibes.
Mind your consumption: Consuming any kind of negative content just plummets mood further. Be very picky about how and with whom you are spending time.
Excited about Monday noon: Plan something to look forward to on Monday noon or evening. This will make you look forward to Monday. Might I add an advice? Usually, I don’t allow myself to get excited about it till noon. To make sure work quality does not decline.
Get a job you love: Holding a Job without work satisfaction makes it meaningless. Ultimate solution to battle Monday blues is enjoying your job. I know its easier said than done and that requires time and effort in huge amounts, but as a saying goes ‘Temporary solution often becomes a permanent problem’.
